چکیده

Abstract This study investigates stress‐based fatigue assessment methods to determine their applicability welded cover plate joints subject axial and bending loading. The nominal stress (NS), hot spot (HSS), 1 mm (OM), effective notch (ENS), theory of critical distances (TCD), averaging (SA) are covered, accuracy reliability evaluated. To the best authors' knowledge, there is limited test data available for subjected In this study, tests performed with under Evaluation based on results. It observed that loading, ENS OM method have highest accuracy. For bending, non‐conservative, other overly conservative. Using design curves recommended thin‐walled highly improves

Assessment of different methods for fatigue life prediction of steel in rotating bending and axial loading

Generally, fatigue failure in an element happens at the notch on a surface where the stress level rises because of the stress concentration effect. The present paper investigates the effect of a notch on the fatigue life of the HSLA100 (high strength low alloy) steel which is widely applicable in the marine industry. Tensile test was conducted on specimens and mechanical properties were obtain...

Degree of Bending (DoB) in Tubular KT-Joints of Jacket Structures Subjected to Axial Loads

The fatigue life of tubular joints commonly found in offshore industry is not only dependent on the value of Hot-spot stress (HSS), but is also significantly influenced by the through-the-thickness stress distribution characterized by the degree of bending (DoB). The determination of DoB values in a tubular joint is essential for improving the accuracy of fatigue life estimation using the stres...

Lifetime prediction of adhesive joints subjected to variable amplitude fatigue

Almost all structural applications of adhesive joints will experience cyclic loading and in most cases this will irregular in nature, a form of loading commonly known as variable amplitude fatigue (VAF). This paper is concerned with the VAF of adhesively bonded joints and has two main parts. In the first part, results from the experimental testing of adhesively bonded single lap joints subjecte...

Moisture Content - Strength Relationship for Lumber Subjected to Bending *

Kennedy (1965) reported small clear strength values for most Canadian species. The average value for modulus of rupture for Douglas Fir based upon 1057 specimens was reported to be 7540 p. s. (52 026 kN/m2 ) when tested in the green (wet) condition while the average value for air-dried specimens adjusted to 12% moisture content was found to be 12,850 p.s.i. (88 665 kN/m2 ), an increase of 71%. ...
